Test Prep
We are intentionally specialized. Brett teaches Reading & English, while Abby teaches Math & Science. That allows each of us to go deeper in our own sections and to adapt our instruction more precisely for neurodivergent and high-achieving students. Students work directly with a specialist in each part of the test, not a generalist covering every section.
We work closely with families, and the relationship matters. Over time, students come to know us well, and that trust becomes part of the work itself. Our sessions are serious but never stiff: we bring warmth, humor, high expectations, and real creativity to the process of reaching each student well.
Our students regularly increase their SAT scores by 200+ points and their ACT scores by 8+ points. Many go on to reach 1550+ on the SAT or 34+ on the ACT. These gains come from preparation that is individualized, exacting, and shaped around the student.
These students often require help in only very specific areas. Our emphasis on diagnostic testing ensures they receive exactly the strategies they require. Throughout the prep, we focus on deep error pattern analysis and increased precision, as well as strengthening pacing and consistency in a timed setting. We leverage students' energy and determination, while reducing anxiety and self-criticism.
We focus on a structured prep plan which includes manageable yet consistent practice. Additionally, we work on time management, building stamina, and reducing careless errors, while harnessing these students' strengths: creative problem-solving, enthusiasm, pattern recognition and big-picture thinking.
We focus on a multisensory visual approach which incorporates passage-mapping, annotation techniques, pattern recognition, and explicit reading strategies, while leveraging students' strengths: big-picture thinking, capacity for memorization, critical-thinking skills, and creativity. We focus on teaching students explicit strategies for each problem type, decoding figurative language, building comprehensive knowledge of the necessary grammar and math content, and time management under pressure. We capitalize on students' strengths: deep focus, attention to detail, strong memory, and unique logical problem-solving abilities.
We begin with an initial conversation to understand the student, the coursework, and what kind of support would be most useful.
